About The Lactation Consultant
A mother of four, she fell into her passion for supporting parents and babies through her own breastfeeding challenges with her first baby. She quickly came to realize how having informed, caring support throughout one's journey can make all the difference between reaching breastfeeding/chestfeeding goals and never coming close. Nekisha found her life's work through the experience of having a knowledgeable lactation consultant who turned her breastfeeding experience around. She is proud to dedicate her life to paying it forward by extending that same support to new families daily.
Nekisha began her career first as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), then soon became accredited as a La Leche League Leader - where she spent years helping breast/chestfeeding dyads in both group and one-on-one settings. She went on to pursue her Master of Public Health with a focus on breastfeeding disparities within marginalized communities. Today, Nekisha continues to support families who cannot afford to access skilled lactation support, while also leading the fight toward perinatal health equity for all through equity training for birthworkers and organizations that train and serve birthworkers.
